  • Garimella Srisudha (M.S. Software Engineering 2010)

Ms. Garimella Srisudha & Ms. Srilavanya Paleti's (alumnae of M.S. Software Engineering, 2010) project work on “In-Vehicle Networking Based Services for Travellers” under the guidance of Dr. K. Ganesan (Director, TIFAC-CORE, VIT) was awarded US patent on 27th July 2014.  In their invention they have demonstrated how to provide a plethora of services (via ad-hoc networks) to passengers who are travelling in ships / trains / buses without using Internet.

In their path breaking invention, they have built an embedded wireless hardware systems along with necessary software and  placed them in strategic locations in the train / ship / bus so that any end user can contact any fellow unknown passenger via their mobile phones. As the proposed system uses ad-hoc networking based services, it does not require any Internet connectivity. Some of the notable services offered are:

     1)   Alerting the sleeping passenger only when his destination station arrives (through mobile vibration / audio playing) without disturbing other co-passengers.

    4)   Unknown passengers travelling in the vehicle can share their hotel accommodation.

    5)  Can play multi-player games with unknown passengers.

    6)  Can identify the nearest Doctor (within the vehicle) in case of medical emergency, etc.
